Racelink is a desktop app for sim racing overlays, sold on Steam, and this website. In short: the app keeps your data on your own computer and sends nothing to us. We have no accounts, no ads, no tracking cookies, and the app has no analytics or crash reports that leave your computer.
Who is responsible
The controller of the personal data described here is Aleksandrs Ahiļčenoks, Latvia. Write to racelink.support@gmail.com with any question about your data.
You may also complain to a data protection authority: in Latvia this is the Data State Inspectorate (Datu valsts inspekcija, www.dvi.gov.lv), or the authority where you live or work.
This website
The site is hosted by Vercel Inc. When you open a page, your browser sends the usual request data (IP address, browser, the page asked for, time). Vercel processes it to deliver the page and keep the service secure.
We use Vercel Web Analytics to count visits. It sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device. A visitor is recognised by a hash of the request that is discarded after 24 hours, and we only see aggregated figures: pages viewed, referrer, country or region, device type, operating system and browser. We cannot identify you from them.
The legal basis is our legitimate interest in running the site and knowing which pages are useful (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)). Vercel is based in the United States; transfers rely on the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses in Vercel’s data processing terms.
The site keeps one setting in your browser’s local storage: the light or dark theme of the overlay guide. It never leaves your browser. The site picks its language from what your browser asks for and does not store it.
What the app keeps on your computer
Everything below stays in the Racelink folder on your computer (on Windows %APPDATA%\Racelink). We do not receive it and cannot see it. You can delete it at any time: item by item in the app, or all of it with Settings → reset.
- Your settings, layouts, overlay settings, shortcuts and controller bindings.
- Your own driving: lap history, fuel use and AC Rally stage runs, with the notes you write.
- Session recordings, only if you turn recording on. A recording holds the whole session as the game reports it, including the names and IDs of the other drivers. Old recordings are removed above the size you choose.
- The driver directory (iRacing): the names, iRacing customer IDs, car numbers and countries of drivers you were in a session with, and the tags you give them. Drivers without a tag are forgotten 90 days after you last met them. On the Tags page you can turn the directory off or forget everyone without a tag at once.
- A log of what the app did, for troubleshooting. It is kept below about 10 MB and holds no driver names.
Other drivers
Racing games show the names and IDs of everyone in a session to every participant. Racelink shows them in the same way and keeps them on your computer for your own use, which falls under the household exemption of the GDPR (Art. 2(2)(c)). If you publish a recording or a screenshot, or let a community overlay send data to the internet, you decide where those names go and are responsible for that.
Services the app talks to
The app contacts other services only for the features you use. Each of them handles your data under its own privacy policy.
- Steam (Valve): Racelink runs through Steam. With Steam Cloud on, your settings, layouts and driver tags are saved to your own Steam Cloud, together with the name of the computer, so you can tell your computers apart. Steam Rich Presence, off by default, shows your friends the game, track and session. The Steam Workshop shows, installs and publishes overlays under your Steam account.
- Twitch: the Twitch chat overlay reads the public chat of the channel you enter. It connects anonymously and encrypted; Twitch sees your IP address. Emotes are loaded from Twitch’s servers.
- Community overlays are made by other people. They receive the race data, including other drivers’ names and IDs. They can reach only the internet addresses you allow; their authors are responsible for what they do with the data.
- Links to the Steam store and to this site open in your browser.
Your rights
You have the right to access, correct and erase your personal data, to restrict or object to its processing, to data portability, and to complain to a supervisory authority. The app’s data is on your computer, so you can see, export and delete it yourself. For the website we hold no data that identifies you; write to us and we will answer within one month.
Racelink is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
When this policy changes, the date below changes and the app’s release notes say so.
